Sketch out the Rainbow---Poly. U ¡@ It was October 6, 2002 (Sun), and it¡¦s the 65th Anniversary of this University. The activity of ¡§Sketching out the Rainbow¡¨ helped raise funds for the HK Children Cancer Donation Fund. I took the 7:30 a.m. boat to Hong Kong Island to meet Ah Tung, Terry, Fong Fong, Mimi, Uncle Lung and Desmond. We took the bus together to the HK Stadium. There we met Kam Fai, Sandy, Eunice, Rowena, May Yam, Mei Ling, Wai Ling, and some others. Ah Tung took our group photo outside the Stadium before we went inside together. We had to sign in before entering the stadium, and because we were such a crowd, we were seated in three separate rows. The ceremony started at 10:30a.m. Famous DJs Yuen Siu Yee and Law Kai Sun, both alums of this university, presented the history and development of the Poly. U. They shared with the audience amusing anecdotes during their tenure there. Then, came the Gymnastic performance by the students of the Guang zhong Gymnastic Institute. After that, a popular teenage group ¡§The Cookies¡¨ sang two songs for us. Then they showed a video of an interview with Miss Gigi Leung, followed by a performance of the Police Orchestra. All performances were very good and it was a bonus that we could see them close-up. After that, Mr. Chung Chi Kwong, Miss Poon Fong Fong and Kawaii assumed the M.C. roles. They told us to put on the T-shirts and the caps and the Hong Kong chief executive and the Director of the Poly. U, Mr. Tung Kin Wah, led us in the ¡§Sketch Out the Rainbow¡¨ ceremony. Under his supervision, more than 11,000 people broke the Guinness World Record right there and then. Later we played the ¡§People Wave¡¨ several times until 12:00 noon when all activities ended. We went to lunch and then I took the 2:15 p.m. ferry home. I felt that this was a fun yet meaningful activity as I could help in raising funds for the needy as well as enjoy the day with my friends. I wouldn't mind participating in the same kind of activities again. What's more, I came back with a T-shirt, a cap, and a certificate commemorating the event! ¡@ |
